Lubbock Christian University has a new $3 million endowment for its Honors College courtesy of the Mabee Foundation, the Texas school recently announced.
The large grant is part of the 75th anniversary celebration for Mabee, an organization started by John and Lottie Mabee in 1948 that supports various nonprofits in Texas and nearby states.

For 57 of those years, LCU has been a recipient of Mabee’s investments, making the foundation “an integral part in the growth and maturity of this university,” said Raymond Richardson, the school’s vice president of advancement, in a press release.
LCU’s honors program began more than 20 years ago and transitioned to a full-fledged college in 2016, offering programs specifically tailored to high-achieving students.
Kent Gallaher, LCU provost and chief academic officer speaks at the Mabee Foundation endowment announcement.
In appreciation of the new endowment, the college is being renamed to the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation Honors College and will be housed in the renovated Mabee American Heritage Center.
LCU says the funds will also help the college provide students with additional scholarships, programs and coaching.
